They are groups of relevant niche companies (SMEs and other actors) that collaborate closely by uniting efforts. SMEs can interact faster and be more creative. It also can create job opportunities and register more international trademarks and patents.

The goal is to innovate and quickly bring new products to market, and radically change production processes in record time, as well as share information. There are 800 European groups with all hands as this is the battle plan for European groups. Industrial clusters are key actors in the industrial ecosystem that foster interactions between large companies, SMEs, universities, other research centers, and public authorities. In this crisis, the work of these groups is necessary to identify market shortages and facilitate much-needed interactions between producers, suppliers, and logistics companies to increase medical supply production.
Two weeks ago, the European Commission launched an informal invitation to industrial clusters with the support of the Alliance of European Communities (12 national federations of industrial clusters) to determine the production capacity available for masks, personal protective equipment, and ventilation devices. In record time it got more than 1,100 offers from companies offering options for the production of these medical supplies. The European Cluster Cooperation Platform supported by the European Commission hosts 800 industry clusters from across Europe. It has created a COVID-19 response portal with background information from the industry and a forum to share experiences and seek or provide help.
